U10E

“Having won our first game of the season 2–1, the team lost 5 games in a row, conceding 20 goals and scoring only 2. The team was learning and so were we (my Assistant Alan Downey and I) - finding the best players for the right positions and also trying to teach them all the right way to play. They have now gone on a run of winning 5 matches in a row, scoring 17 goals and conceding only 2.

Despite the losing run, the bad weather, the cold, they train hard every Wednesday and they are starting to adhere to the principles that Declan Bollard has tried to explain to them of C.P.M (Control Pass Move)

Along with my assistant manager Alan Downey, we both would also like to acknowledge, the help and encouragement that we get from the parents of the players, who always turn out in great numbers to support the team home or away.
If any team deserves “Team of The Week” then for Enthusiasm, hard work, listening and determination then I would like to nominate the GUFC, Under 10E” …. Ian Porter, Manager

U9B

"GUFC U9B finished all the matches in the WDSL Division 1 league with a great 5-0 victory over Wolfe Tone who are also contenders for the title. It’s a very tight 3 way race between these two teams and Ashford A. With the win GUFC secured at least second place with both the other teams having to take maximum points from their outstanding games to win - and they have to play each other.

The scoring opened with a Wolfe Tone own goal caused by a great run down the right wing by Stephen Kilduff who sent in a low hard cross into the box. The other goals were scored by Eoghan O’Longaigh who got his third hat-trick of the league campaign, and a volley by Stephen Kilduff off a cross from Eoghan. GUFC defence was very strong and Dylan Butler pulled off some fantastic saves to keep a clean sheet.

We have to wait and see now how the other teams get on in their remaining games but it was a great Greystones performance which guaranteed second place and may have won the league" .... Alan Kilduff, Manager
