U11B Clinch League Title!

sport1a

Congratulations to the U11B team whose 6-1 win over 2nd place Avonmore, put them in an un-assailable position at the top of the table.

"U11B hosted the Avonmore A team on the All-weather pitch this Sunday knowing that a victory would clinch the Division title with 2 games remaining. Extra spice was added to the fixture by the fact that Avonmore were the only team to beat them with a last minute goal in the away fixture.

Greystones started strongly after a couple of nervous minutes resulting in 5 offside decisions in quick succession. Avonmore were defending valiantly with great efforts from Mudiagas, Brian Doyle, Ben Hoffman and Dan Clark all going close. Greystones were threatening well down both wings with Eoin Lennon and Sam Molloy combining down the left and Alan O’Donovan and Dan Clark down the right. After 20 minutes the pressure down the wings paid off with Dan Clark finishing from a great run down the right to make it 1-0. This sparked a reaction from Avonmore and only 2 great tackles from Ryan Hudson and Conor Browne, followed by a brave save at the attacker’s feet from Conor Lynch, prevented an equaliser. Almost immediately, Greystones worked the ball to the right and a great move involving 7 uninterrupted passes resulted in Cian Baldwin finishing a Dan Clark cross in off the cross-bar to make it 2-0 at half time.

The second half began with Greystones continuing to attack but Avonmore sprung a great counter-attack to narrowly beat Conor Lynch in off the post and make it 2-1 after 5 minutes. The lads seem to shake off the set-back with ease and suddenly Cian Brennan was in one on one with the Avonmore keeper, and coolly slid it past him for 3-1. From the kick-off Greystones were back on the attack with Matt O’Dwyer winning the ball in midfield and working it out to the right. With great work from Dylan Goode, Dan Clark eventually received the ball to give the Goalie no chance. At 4-1 Avonmore responded and great defending from the back four resulted in Conor Lynch being well protected. Then great defending followed by some neat footwork from Kieran Sheehy got the ball to Sam Molloy and eventually the ball worked to Cian Brennan to finish superbly for his second of the day. It only remained for the hardworking Dan Clark to complete his second hat-trick of the season to allow the team to play out the last 5 minutes at 6-1.

The expected jubilation began at the final whistle with a sporting ‘shake-hands’ session with Avonmore.
Congratulations are due to the entire panel that have shown great dedication with great attendance at both training and matches. They support each other, are always in good humour and love to play good football. Here’s to more success for a great bunch of lads" ... Paul Molloy, Manager
